Renaud Fortuner (fortuner@wanadoo.fr)

In the 1980's, five volumes of "English translations of selected taxonomic papers in nematology" were published by California Department of Food and Agriculture.

Except for volume 1 (with translations from French), most of the selected papers were originally written in Russian and translated by William H. Wilsnack, Carmichael, California.  These articles have now been scanned and are proposed in the present site. As the translated articles were scanned directly from the published volumes, the page numbers from these volumes appear at the bottom of each pages. They do not refer to the page numbers in the original Russian articles.

Names of authors of the translated artic1es, and names of authors cited in these articles, have been transliterated, when necessary, from Cyrillic to Latin alphabet using standard ISO/R91968 (E), Table 2, which can be found in Webster's New Collegiate Dictionary (Merriam Co„ 1973). Names transliterated by the authors of the translated articles using a different standard have been corrected for the sake of consistency (Filip'ev instead of Filipjev; Kir'yanova instead of Kirjanova or Kiryanova; etc.). However, the names in the titles of the translated articles have been kept as originally published for an easier search of literature.

Names of geographical 1ocations cited in the translated articles have been transliterated using the same standard. Transliterated names have been checked in Encyclopaedia Britannica World Atlas (Encyclopaedia Britannica, Inc.,1956) and Rand MCNally Cosmopolitan World Atlas (Rand MCNally & Co.,1978). Names in new translations were checked in Wikipedia.

Technical terms have been brought to conformity with traditional nematological terms: gut is replaced by intestine; posterior intestine by rectum, etc.

Whenever possible the references given in the original articles have been checked (Tarjan & Hopper's Nomenclatorial Compilation of Plant and Soil Nematodes; Helminthological Abstracts). When necessary a more correct quotation of references has been substituted to the original text.
